Tours the U.S.

Masterpieces by young artists from around the world will travel the country as Pentel's International Children's Art Exhibition (ICAE) kicks off its 37th annual United States tour beginning September 2007.

This year, a distinguished panel of judges in Tokyo, Japan, viewed over 70,000 entries from children representing 33 countries and territories around the world. The United States submitted over 2,000 pieces. Students from three to fifteen years of age entered their paintings, drawings, and collages through an art instructor or educator.

The difficult task of evaluating each entry is a four-month endeavor, which begins in January and concludes in April. Representatives from Biiku Bunka Kyokai (the Foundation of Art Education in Japan), art professors, and teachers from participating countries comprise the distinguished panel of judges.

The vivid imagination of a child is the recurring theme for the event. Artwork is judged on the basis of originality, clearly expressed content and cultural expression. In all, 118 American students have been recognized this year from a worldwide list of winning students.

The ICAE was founded in 1970 in Osaka, Japan, and remains strong with enthusiasm today, with entries more than tripling since the beginning. Over 200 countries have entered more than three million pieces of artwork. Each year, several exhibitions consisting of thousands of multi-national, award-winning pieces are assembled to tour in Japan, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Russian Federation, the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore.

Pentel of America sponsors the U.S. exhibition, which will embark on a nine-city, ten-month tour beginning September 2007. Winning entries from the United States, combined with winning entries from around the world, will be featured in the exhibition.
