PENTEL AND ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION MAKE MEMORIES FOR THOSE WITHOUT
Ontario, CA - September 22, 2006 - Alzheimer's and other memory loss disorders rob people of their most precious possession-their memories. While the disease itself is not yet preventable, the severity of its impact can be minimized with early diagnosis and various interventions. Pentel® of America joins the Alzheimer's Association® of Orange County in offering an innovative mediation through art for those with Alzheimer's.
The Memories in the Making® program allows those with Alzheimer's to explore their memories and emotions through art. The art they produce is a tangible, often stirring, means of expression, one that speaks volumes to families, caregivers and the community. Anecdotal evidence suggests this opportunity for expression elevates the quality of life for people suffering from Alzheimer's and other memory loss disorders.
Initiated in 1988, Memories in the Making, the signature art program of the Alzheimer's Association Orange County Chapter, is offered at over 50 sites throughout the county including senior care facilities, churches and community centers. The art, developed as calendars and note cards, helps increase awareness and understanding of memory loss disorders.
As a corporate sponsor, Pentel provides monetary support and art supply kits for the Memories in the Making volunteer instructors. "We believe this program is extremely beneficial and we are proud to support the AAOC's efforts to help those with Alzheimer's and their families," said Marty Furman, Chief Operating Officer for Pentel of America.
"Helping the local community is one of our core values;" Furman continued, "we are excited to partner with such an esteemed organization to offer such an outstanding opportunity."
